About
Welcome to the colourful world of Klarybarry

Hi! My name is Klara Nilsson and I started Klarybarry in late 2021 with the goal to make colourful knitwear that makes people happy. I design and make everything by hand on a domestic knitting machine in my apartment in southern Sweden.
A bit about me.. I've been interested in textiles in different ways for as long as I can remember. It started with embroidery and when I was 10 I got my first sewing machine and started my own "company" Klara Syson & co (sy means sew in swedish). I made neckties and bags that I sold to people in my family. Later on I started getting more into sewing clothes.

Next step was crocheting and when I was 15 I was really into crocheting portraits. After that I got into knitting, so knitting is actually the thing I've been doing for the shortest time but also the thing I'm doing the most now. I always wanted to become a fashion designer (thanks to project runway) so after high school I decided to study textiles at Önnestads folk high school. There I learned the basics in sewing, pattern making, weaving, screen printing, etc. After 1 year I decided to also study 1 year of art at the same school (because I didn't know what I wanted to do). I always thought I would do fashion design but I realised that the thing I love about clothes are how the patterns and textiles make the garment so instead I decided to study textile design. I got a bachelors degree in textile design at the swedish school of textiles and graduated in 2021. For my degreework I explored cable knitting in combination with colourwork techniques because that's a combination that haven't really been explored that much. Cable knitting is traditionally in 1 colour and colourwork is usually flat so I wanted to see how the mix of patterns and texture could create something new. I fell in love with the techniques and kept exploring it after I graduated which eventually led to me starting Klarybarry.
